Opera’s AI-Powered Browser Now Available to the Public
Opera has announced that its browser infused with generative AI is now available for public use. The browser, called Opera One, has exited its early access phase and can now be downloaded from the company’s website. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
Opera has an integrated artificial intelligence called Aria that you can access from the sidebar. You can also start using Aria with a hotkey (CTRL or Command and /). Artificial intelligence is also available in Opera’s Android browser from today.
Artificial intelligence is based on Opera’s partnership with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. Aria connects to GPT to help answer user queries. The artificial intelligence contains live information from the web and can generate text or code and answer support questions about Opera products. In addition, Opera One can create contextual prompts for Aria when you right-click or highlight text in the browser. If you want to use ChatGPT or ChatSonic, you can also use them from the Opera One sidebar.
Opera says users don’t have to use the browser’s AI features if they don’t want to. First, you need to sign in to an Opera account to use Aria.
In addition, Opera One has a fresh look based on modular design principles. Opera says this helps the browser adapt to users’ needs by highlighting the most important features. “Opera One’s relevant modules automatically adapt based on context, providing the user with a smoother and more effortless browsing experience,” it wrote in a blog post.
Opera hopes to also clean up tab clutter with a feature it calls tab islands. Opera One uses context to group together related tabs, such as hotels and routes you might be looking up for an itinerary, or all the Google Docs you have open for a work project.
Meanwhile, Opera has moved the browser under the hood. It used a new architecture with a multi-threaded compositor with the aim of providing a faster and smoother user interface. The company says this approach will also help add new features and make Opera One stand out from other Chromium-based browsers. It said more AI-focused updates are in the works later this year.
